Sally Derbyshire
Meet Sally!
Sally Derbyshire is the co-owner of The Pilates Village in Hunters Hill, Sydney, a Faculty Educator for National Pilates Training, and a highly qualified practitioner holding an Advanced Diploma of The Pilates Method and Principal Trainer status with the Pilates Alliance Australasia.
A Sydney native, Sally’s journey into movement began early when she moved to Melbourne at just 16 to train at The Australian Ballet School. Her first passion was dance, which led her to a professional career with the English National Ballet, performing in London and touring internationally across the UK, Japan, and Australia. These experiences instilled in Sally a deep appreciation for movement, discipline, and physical well-being, values that continue to guide her work today.
Pilates became Sally’s second passion when she discovered its profound ability to challenge the body while supporting injury rehabilitation. Her Pilates journey began in 2003 under the guidance of Katrina Edwards, and over the past 20 years, she has developed an extensive teaching career. During her time in the UK, Sally became an Educator with Body Control Pilates while establishing her professional and family life with her husband. A move to Bangkok brought new challenges, as she focused on raising her two boys. After the birth of her second child, feeling less physically fit than ever, Sally turned to Mat Pilates and long-distance running to rebuild her strength and well-being.
Since returning to Sydney, Sally has embraced life as a business owner. Her studio, The Pilates Village, also serves as a host site for National Pilates Training courses, contributing to the development of the next generation of instructors. She has expanded her expertise by training in APEI Classical Pilates and Slings Myofascial Training with Art of Motion, further enhancing her ability to support clients in achieving lasting, meaningful change through movement.
Sally’s passion for Pilates lies in its ability to improve movement and transform lives, enabling people of all body types to reach their full potential. When she’s not teaching, Sally enjoys life’s simple pleasures—her morning coffee, dining out at great restaurants, or savoring a craft beer. She loves exploring new places, traveling the world, and spending time outdoors in nature.
