Melissa Anderson
Originally from Canberra, I began dancing at the age of 3 before I moved to Adelaide to pursue my study in dance; completing the Bachelor in Dance Performance in 2008. The anatomy and kinesiology components of the course particularly appealed to me and ultimately took me towards the Pilates path.
My continuous Pilates attendance complemented and facilitated many hours of dance training from my teens; it was the ‘glue’ to help prevent, rehabilitate and reduce further injuries and I continued to include Pilates in my movement routine post-dance.
Unfortunately, a pelvic injury was the deciding factor in not pursuing a dance career, so I took a 90 degree turn and followed my creative side and accrued a Diploma in Specialist Makeup Services. Whilst not in the movement industry I thoroughly enjoyed the teaching component and having clients walk away with more knowledge about their products and what to do with them.
Eventually I was drawn back into the movement and fitness world, completing the Diploma of Polestar Pilates Studio & Rehabilitation Method (via Polestar education), a Level 1 and Level 2 in CrossFit and; Kettlebell Level 1 and Level 2 qualifications, all leading me to open my own studio in Adelaide – Korpermotus Pilates. I have been teaching for close to 10 years now and I am still so rewarded by what Pilates and the equipment can do for clients of all ages, injury levels and movement/conditioning capacities.
I currently educate for Polestar Pilates here in Adelaide and working with students continues to keep me on my toes when translating the textbook to curious minds. Not to mention a very fulfilling role.
I love how Pilates has enabled me to keep moving at Crossfit and I enjoy the link between the functional fitness realm and Pilates (albeit seemingly on the opposite ends of the spectrum!).
Fun fact: I love puns and dad jokes a little too much.. I will engage in a ‘pun battle’ without hesitation!
