Alyce Merton
Hi I’m Alyce, I’m a Pilates teacher at the Spine and Sports Centre in East Perth.
I’ve always had a passion for movement ever since becoming a remedial massage therapist in 2016. During my time as a massage therapist it became evident that providing clients with exercise prescriptions helped to improve their results and I loved that pilates as a movement style worked through all ranges of motion, in different planes of movement, in a low impact way.
In 2019, I decided to undertake both a matwork and reformer Pilates course through PilatesITC in Perth. Since completing my certification I have been teaching Pilates ever since!
After a year of teaching at Breathe Pilates Studio, coupled with my background in remedial massage; and combined with my understanding of human anatomy and biomechanics, I decided to continue my Pilates learning by completing a clinical pilates equipment certificate through APPI (Australian Physiotherapy & Pilates Institute) in 2021. This course has given me even more confidence and insight into the ‘why’ we give certain exercises for a wide variety of conditions and injuries to progress clients towards functional movement.
I love to deliver classes that are fun, energetic and flowing that focus on working the whole body. I’m often known for creating a challenge class, which my clients absolutely love and which I’m looking forward to sharing with you via the Soul Flexible app.
When I’m not teaching group classes I love to teach and work with clients who have injuries because seeing clients progress during the rehab is so rewarding! It’s a great feeling helping clients achieve their goals.
When I’m not exercising or teaching Pilates I enjoy being by the water, whether that is catching up with friends for a coffee or going for a walk. I also love to travel and explore new places!
Something that not many people know about me is that I used to massage horses as a job! And no, they don't lay down for you!
